Have you done, learnt, and contributed everything you possibly can in your current role? Do you feel stuck? Bored? Unmotivated? It is probably time for growth. You need a more challenging role and you have possibly figured that out but do not know how or where to start.
There are many places you can potentially look for and find jobs, both online and offline including LinkedIn, Job Boards, Recruitment Agencies, Newspapers, Company Websites, Referrals and, Writing or Cold Calling to inquire about vacancies. In this article, we specifically look at how you can use LinkedIn to find your dream job.
To search for jobs on LinkedIn, click the jobs icon, which looks like a portfolio or briefcase. You can find it at the top or bottom of your profile depending on whether you are using a mobile device or a desktop computer. This will bring up all the jobs that are recommended for you based on the information on your LinkedIn profile including your qualifications, experience, and skills.
Customize your job search using keywords like job title, skills, company, or location for more accurate results. Use the filter options to filter the search results further by most relevant, date posted, LinkedIn features, company and experience level then toggle “Job Alert On” to ensure that you receive alerts for jobs that match your profile. Proceed to click on a job posting that you are interested in to apply for it. You can either “Easy Apply”, which lets you apply for a job on LinkedIn or “Apply”, which redirects you to the company or third-party website where you can apply for the job externally.
It is important to note that having an updated and optimized LinkedIn profile will improve your chances of getting employed. Recruiters who headhunt for talent on LinkedIn use the same approach on the flipside to find potential hires i.e., keyword search. So go all out and work on your LinkedIn profile until you have an “All Star” rating on your profile strength meter or hire us at Great First Impression to optimize your LinkedIn profile for you.
Wondering what you need to do to achieve an “All Star” LinkedIn profile? First and foremost, include a professional profile photo. Take a picture in formal attire, akin to what you would wear to work. According to LinkedIn, members with a profile photo get 21 times more views than those without one.
Include a background image. If you are unsure about the kind of image to use, here are a few suggestions:
a photo of your workspace
a custom made LinkedIn banner with your contact and/or professional details
a quote that represents a philosophy you believe in or agree with
a photo of your tools of trade
an image of an award or achievement
a picture of your staff, community, or clients
a picture of your city’s skyline or something that represents your hobbies and interests if they align with your professional work
Once you have taken care of your visual first impression, proceed to optimize the rest of your profile by writing a summary in the “About” section, fill out the work and education sections, include relevant skills and get endorsements for them, request recommendations from your connections, include links to your work online and provide as much relevant information as possible. Happy job hunting, we are rooting for you! Have you used LinkedIn in your job search before? What was your experience? Share this article so others can benefit from this information too.
